This video is a great example of communcation skills and I would highly recommend for anyone taking BOH4M.
While not the definition of "organizing" in the traditional sense, Betsy Hoover talks about how the Obama presedential campaign managed to reach so many people online.
One of the three main ways they acheived the outreach that they did was through appealing to the person on the other end of the contact. Rather than just counting them as another voter or non-voter, the Obama campaign's online outreach team considered each one as a person. One of the most famous emails they sent simply had a subject of "Hey" and was received very well by recipients.
Another way that the Obama public outreach team practiced effective communcation was by understanding who was sending the message. Rather than reaching out themselves to potential (but not yet decided) voters, they had those people's friends reach out on the team's behalf. This is an example of how the sender of the communcation can affect the effectiveness of the communication iteself.
One final way the Obama team showed communcation skills was by personally reaching out. They know that some voters wouldn't investigate the Obama campaign themselves, so President Obama actually went on Reddit and answered voter's questions once. This was extremely successful, bringing in almost 30 000 voters in a single day (the highest spike throughout the whole campaign). This shows that the medium of communication is often as important as the communication itself.
